About URF:

URF is the University of Sussex’s student station, producing award winning student radio since 1976. We are proudly unplaylisted, trusting the creativity of our members to produce all of our content and providing a platform for the many voices here at Sussex. However due to the increasingly high demand, URF has reached capacity in terms of the number of shows we are able to broadcast, making it crucially important that we continue to expand and explore new mediums.

Podcasting offers URF the opportunity to continue our legacy of original content, equipping the next generation of broadcasters with the skills necessary to get involved in the fastest growing audio industry.

Why we need your help:

URF is looking to fund a new podcasting program, creating a new outlet for the limitless creativity of the University of Sussex community. Podcasting is an inclusive format, and URF podcasting will offer students from all backgrounds the opportunity to express their unique voices and truly represent life here at Sussex.

To give as many people as possible the opportunity to participate, the funds raised by this campaign will go towards the Rode Rodecaster, an intuitive simple to use podcasting desk, enabling even complete beginners to produce their own shows with ease. This setup will allow URF to expand our projects into the local community, supporting and empowering individuals both on and off campus to tell their story.

URF is run entirely by student volunteers and so to make this project a reality, we need your help. Donations will help fund the acquisition of the desk, in addition to covering the many hidden costs of podcasting, as outlined below. The minimum goal will fund only the desk and anything over that will go towards equipment to allow URF to create the best audio content possible. All donations will be generously matched by the University of Sussex alumni office, so even small gifts will go a long way.

Here's a breakdown of what we're looking to buy:

  • Rodes Rodecaster
  • Dynamic Microphones
  • Boom Arms for Microphones
  • Hosting fees
  • ID3 editing software
  • Headphones
  • Assorted Cables
