Yesterday was a difficult day on site. We began work without any power in the morning due to electric maintenance in the village. This meant no power tools and we were forced to fill in the time with tasks that can be done by hand, slowing down progress. By 3pm we managed to get hold of a generator which meant we were able to fix the purlins (the beams which support the steel roofing) to the roof structure. However once in place it was clear there was an issue with the angles cut in the purlins. This set us back once again meaning all the angles were to be recut as closely as possible (to avoid any significant loss of overhang).

Another team was working on roof beams for pod 2 (kitchen) which also had a number of set backs, but after resolving the corner details the first beam was able to be fixed and we're hopeful that the kitchen roof will be finished by today!

Today we managed to resolve yesterday's problems and we're back on track for completion: we had power back today, all 38 purlins are recut and ready to fix to the roof tomorrow.

During our lunch break we have been able to get to play with all our little clients (the children who will be using the school).

The photo below shows the corner detail of the kitchen roof that we completed.

The first phase team is coming to the end of their time building in South Africa which means the project is underway! They have made a great start to the project which you can see in the photos attached.

Currently the main frame of the building of each room is up (for the main class room, infants room and office) and the steal frame for the covered courtyard is up despite it's late delivery and amazingly we are actually running ahead of schedule for the build!

The second phase are eagerly preparing to leave for South Africa to go and finish the project for our excited clients.
