Who are you?

Hello everyone! My name is Richard Ong (Reo). I am a student at Southern Adventist University studying Biology, aspiring to become a Physician.  God has blessed me with the opportunity to serve as a 4th grade teacher at Pohnpei SDA School in the islands of Micronesia.

Why am I going?

As an undergraduate student who attends a university filled with students who dedicate their lives to missions, I constantly hear wonderful, life-changing testimonies of how impactful one’s experience can be for the community being served, along with the views of their own. I hope to be a victim in both cases and experience the fulfillment gained by following Christ's footsteps and serving others.

After all of your prayers, sharing, and financial support for me to partake in the short-term missions at Pucallpa, Peru in March 2017, I knew that I only experienced the tip of the iceberg. After much consideration, I decided to commit to a semester long student missions program.

Student Missions specifically aims to spread the gospel of God through teaching, caring, and loving in various roles. There is a great demand for many natives to learn about the gospel, and I believe that incorporating the teachings and actions of Christ, as a teacher will significantly benefit the community. I have grown into a person who loves to experience different cultures the world has to offer, and I am more than excited to experience the diverse culture in Pohnpei. I am beyond grateful for any type of support whether is it through prayer or donations.

I want to serve, and need your help.

Where will the money go?

Every year over 60 student missionaries are sent out from Southern. As a group, we are collectively raising the funds to cover many of our needs including airfare, visas, insurance, training, and care packages. I have personally agreed to be responsible for raising $3,600 towards those needs. I can't do it alone however, anything you are willing or able to give towards the 2018-19 missionaries is greatly appreciated by not just myself but my fellow missionaries and those we plan to serve.
