Hello everyone!
This year I will be dedicating a month of my summer ( June 18th to July 16th) to travel to Fiji and work as a volunteer in a team made up of Ulster University students made possible by government-backed organisation Think Pacific. During my time here I will be providing support to Fijian teachers in local schools helping children living in poverty. This includes 1-1 sessions in English and maths as well as sports coaching and extra curricular activities.
I will also be living with a Fijian family with the aim of becoming fully immersed into their culture. Being without things we take for granted such as hot water and WiFi will make for a challenging experience but a rewarding one as I'm going out there happy with the knowledge that I'll be helping some under-privileged children.
Lastly some information on Think Pacific. Their main aim is to provide better opportunities for children living in rural Fijian communities and growing up in poverty. Since forming in 2009 Think Pacific and its volunteers have
• Created 72 kindergartens
• Increased sports participation by 600%
• Improved literacy results by 40%
• Completed over 60+ building projects
