better and safer helmets

We are raising money for the Swansea University American Football team to allow us to purchase new helmets to replace our old ones.

the only full contact american football team in swansea

The Swansea University American Football team also known as the Swansea Titans are currently the only full contact American Football team in Swansea. Founded 10 years ago the Titans have grown from a small social team of around 20 players to a well-respected Premiership outfit and is now one of the top teams at University level in the country. The team has progressed throughout their 10 years of existence and grown to over 70 active players and we have won the Division 1 national final in 2016 and National Challenge trophy back in 2014.

The one thing that hasn’t changed throughout the years is our commitment to our players.

We want to make American Football as accessible to them as possible whilst providing them with equipment and facilities that will keep them safe and allow them to develop. To make the game accessible we provide all our players that need it with club owned Kit as well as try to keep our membership fees as low as possible to prevent financial barriers to the game.

we need your help to keep playing the sport we love

The team is currently coached by a group of volunteers many of whom are former and current players. We are a tight knit group of players, who love watching, learning, training and playing American Football and we need your help to keep playing the sport we love.

This season we will be playing in the BUAFL (British University American Football League) Southern Premiership, we have been in the premiership for 2 prior season and have reached the National quarter-finals on both occasions. We aim to continue our success in the University league whilst helping to cultivate the game and raise its profile not only in South Wales but in the UK. Along with this we want to continue to grow the Titans family within the University and our local community.

the helmet

The helmet is the most important piece of safety equipment that a player will wear. Without a helmet of good quality, the player is more susceptible to head injuries during the game.

current situation = unsafe

Our club currently has around 50 helmets that we loan out to players, unfortunately through many years of wear and tear many have fallen into disrepair and are unsafe for use. The helmets we currently own are the cheapest on the market at around £170. Unfortunately, their manufacturer, has now ended production on the helmet and its spare parts. The team is now in possession of a large quantity of helmets that are either unsafe or soon to be unsafe and we now have no way of repairing them due to the lack of parts. On top of this the helmet brand recently came second from bottom in an NFL safety test and was subsequently banned from being used by NFL players. we need to replace our helmets as soon as possible for the safety of our players.

The money you donate will go towards purchasing new helmets for our hardworking and ambitious team.

To fully replace all our helmets we would need around £10,000, which would allow us to fulfill our commitment to our players to keep them safe and to keep the game accessible. The helmets we aim to purchase retail at £200 and are the next cheapest helmets that were able to pass the NFL safety tests to a high enough standard.
