What i plan to do

My name is Vanessa, and I have set up this account to help me get to Thailand. now I'm sure you're thinking "I'm not funding a holiday, you can work for that" however, I will be going to Thailand as a volunteer. As Thailand is a low economically developed country, english teachers are not just in high demand, but are very costly too, meaning not all schools can afford this luxury; so I have joined a project, with pod volunteers that will allow me to go out there and teach basic english skills to children between the ages of 4-12. There are 9 different schools on the Island which are all in need, and so POD volunteers work closely with them all. As a volunteer on this project you don't find out what school you are working with until you arrive on the Island, but you plan the lessons in order fit the age group you've been assigned. This organisation do such amazing things to make a difference all around the globe, feel free to visit any of the links below to gather more information on them, or the project I am taking part in.

Hi I'm vanessa :)

I am currently a student, studying for a bachelor of arts in education and sociology, and an aspiring motivational speaker. Living in a big family I have always understood the importance of having a generous heart and sharing what you have, and I see this project as another opportunity to share what I do have to help others. "If you find it in your heart to care for someone else, you will have succeeded."- Maya Angelou.                                                                               Although I am going to help others, I am hoping that this experience will also help me to develop and grow.  I am aware that living in the UK has afforded me many opportunities that I could take for granted, for example, a free education until the age of 18yrs.  Like most young people growing up in western society I think that I have sometimes taken this for granted.  Traveling and volunteering on the other side of the world without all my 'creature comforts' will inevitably result in me reflecting on and appreciating all that my birthright has gifted to me.

The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.

A short synopsis of my story:

Two years ago, I went through a period where I suffered from  anxiety -  I found it quite difficult to focus, to sleep, and at times even leaving the house was hard. Everyone around me was worried, particularly my mum, who eventually decided to give me a big fat dose of tough love!!!! Long story short, that was my turning point, so imagine my delight at being able to begin my studies away from home in September 2016. However I still have the safety net of my family and friends and whilst I am really proud of my progress so far, I think this experience will prove to me just how strong I really am.

As I have said, I'm a product of  a very big family; don't get me wrong, my parents have worked really hard to support and provide for us all financially, but as I approach my 21st birthday, I've realised this trip is all on me, and guess what kids I can't do it on my own!!!!  In order to achieve this particular goal in the journey that is my life, I'm going to need your help. If you support me, I pledge to embrace every new experience (even the scary ones), I promise to show love and compassion to the children I work with and to come back with a whole load of new skills and experiences that I will put to good use.

Where will the money go?

  • If I reach my minimum amount of 1500- That includes paying for the accommodation, my taking part in the project so the teaching materials, and travel to and from the school
  • If I reach my goal of 2300- That contributes to all of the above, my flights, a criminal record check (don't worry guys I'm clean its just procedure), vaccinations, visa, basic living expenses
  • If I am lucky enough to reach above my goal amount, the main priority is donating part of it to pod volunteers or any other charity that I connect with out there, and then some of it will go towards further studies
  • I promise that I will update the people that are supporting this project everyday, through posting on social media and on this site the progress that has been made
  • REWARDS!! Take a look at the great rewards that there is on offer.

SSOOOOOO..... to conclude this all I ask a few things; please give what you can, whether thats a £1 or even a £100. However if you are unable to give, help the cause through spreading the word whatever way you can, whether thats through your followers, or just by talking to your mum. I would really appreciate all the help I can get!
